So you've no doubt been invited to a New Years Eve party, whether that be a night at your neighbour's house or a piss up (sorry, reunion) with all your college friends. While you've resolved to have a dry January, turn your life around and become a yoga instructor by the end of February, you might as well enjoy the last drop of vino before the cold light of January hits. We've put together a guide for the best drinks to bring for each New Years Eve party for your last boozy hurrah of the year!
You and nine mates you were in college with are going to the arse end of nowhere for a long weekend of catching up and reminiscing on nuggets like how Tom managed to score Susie while wearing a pink ballerina costume. While the craic will be mighty, heating and similar luxuries are unlikely to be a priority in the remote cottage you're all kipping in. This makes hot whiskey an ideal choice for keeping you warm and, ahem, hydrated!
See above, except on this occasion you are likely to still be doing the same silly activities you were reminiscing about above. A nice whiskey is probably considered too much of a luxury on your student budget, however you don't want to look cheap in front of your relatively new college mates, so adopt a middle ground and buy some decent beers.
The wedding is finally over and you're back from your honeymoon with negative funds in your bank account. Due to lack of cash this New Year's Eve, it's just going to be you and your significant other on the couch. Still though, you want to feel like you're celebrating in style without having to remortgage your brand new home, so prosecco perfectly fits the bill for giving you maximum bang for your buck.
The hipsters have decided on a destination that's so uncool it's ironic. The bearded ones have decided on a random country town known to be particularly unfashionable, and full of tractors, to be their destination of choice for NYE 2014. The hipsters also happen to be your best mates and so you must attend. So what do you bring? Well craft beers obviously, because we all know nothing says hipster like some beer that no-one has previously heard of. To be fair, we can't complain when the craft beers taste this good!
You have long since decided that you will never be venturing near a festival field or a damp cold house in the country again to ring in the New Year. But that doesn't mean you don't still know how to have fun! You need champagne dahling, and a lot of it because it's going to be a long night.
You have moved up a level of sophistication (in your head) from your post college sojourns to the countryside, so you decide to throw a dinner party. You've just got a mortgage (you are also showing off the new gaff simultaneously), so while you need to save the pennies you don't want your friends to think you're not sophisticated. You need a case of wine that shows sophistication, tastes great but isn't going to cost the earth.
You are going next door to visit Mary and Patricia to watch Ryan Tubridy ring in the New Year. You are going to need enough booze to supply an Irish wake to get you through the grim evening ahead, so realistically only a large bottle of vodka will do.
