In a noble attempt to help a sick child and her strong-willed mother, local artists from Dublin and further afield are coming together in an attempt to raise some money, awareness and spirits in an otherwise sorrowful situation.
Kila’s Rónán Ó'Snodaigh, Paddy Casey, Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill (SON) are among some of the Irish artists playing a fundraising event for six-year-old Ava Barry, a sufferer of a severe form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome, to be held in the Tivoli Theatre, Dublin, on July 18.
Dublin Gospel Choir and folk singer Shay Cotter, as well as a troupe of comedians, are also set to perform on the night.
And as well as that, the organisers have also promised some “heavyweight special guests” on the night.
Event organiser, Ciara Reynolds got in touch with Lovin Dublin and gave us the skinny on what to expect:
''Local musicians are all playing for free & there have been donations from local businesses for the auction on the night. Its sure to be a cracking gig with an amazing lineup - we also have a few surprise acts on the night too, so everyone should prepare themselves for a night of music, fun & its for a fantastic cause for Ava.''
Vera Twomey, Ava's mother, is a well-known medicinal cannabis advocate who campaigned unsuccessfully to get her daughter access to medicinal cannabis products in Ireland.
Vera and her family recently moved to La Hague, Holland in order to access the treatment. Since arriving in Holland, Ava has begun her prescribed treatment. Vera said that since Ava has started her medication, she has been almost completely seizure free, having previously suffered through up to 20 severe seizures per day.
