The Situation With The Housing Crisis Looks Set To Get A Whole Lot Worse

Dublin City Council is close to passing a motion that will allow log cabins to be built on family properties.

The Councillor who proposed the motion said the proposal will help families who are stuck in the rental market and those priced out of the housing market.

According to the Irish Examiner, John Lyons of People Before Profit said, "This is for families who have back gardens in which a temporary structure, such as a log cabin, could be built sensitively according to planning guidelines so that it doesn't interfere with neighbours in terms of light, aspect and all of that.

"So they would be constructed in the rear or to the side of the main family residence on the family property."

Reaction online, however, has been less than favourable with people asking if the move could be open to abuse.

People took to Twitter to express their unhappiness.

Raised by People before Profit, and I have no doubt this will only lead to a cheap "solution" to the benefit of the landlord.

Homeless Charity, Focus Ireland, is also questioning the move.

Speaking on Kildare FM, Roughan McNamara said he doesn't believe it's the right solution.
