The National Transport Authority (NTA) has revealed plans to increase the cost of annual tickets for both the Luas and Dublin bus.
According to a document on the NTA website, the Authority is setting fares for 2020 by way of two fares determinations.
The first of which outlines adjustments for all monthly and annual tickets, which will come into play on December 1st of this year. The second will address adjustments for all other fares and will be published in March 2020, with changes effective in April 2020.
The review is aimed at simplifying Dublin’s fare structure ahead of the BusConnects plan, a 10-year plan designed to transform the city’s bus system and make it more punctual, more reliable and more affordable.
Building on the changes made last year, the NTA has again adjusted fares in order to “provide a simpler fare structure, allowing seamless movement between different transport services without financial penalty”.
Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead bus tickets will rise by 3.6 per cent from €1,400 to €1,450 for an annual ticket and €140 to €145 for a monthly ticket.
Luas-only ticket prices will increase by almost 8 per cent, bringing the cost of an annual and monthly ticket to €1,300 and €130 respectively.
