PIC: People Are Putting Love Locks Onto This Dublin Monument

'Love locks', padlocks that are seen as a public display of love, are rapidly gaining popularity in our own fair city.

After the trend made its way from Paris, where the weight of all those loved-up locks caused a section of the famous Pont Des Arts bridge to collapse, Dublin city council had their work cut out for them (literally), when people began to cover the Ha'Penny Bridge in padlocks.

But now it seems there's a new hot-spot in town to show your love.

Love locks attached to the Amnesty International memorial sculpture, close to Busáras, have recently been spotted by Twitter user Michael W Moriarty.

The sculpture represents the jails that are holding prisoners of conscience, and holds an eternal flame in its centre. Okay sure, we get it. Eternal flame = eternal love. But surely there are better ways to declare your love for each other than by vandalising a human rights symbol?

Come on guys, think outside the box.
