Over 2,000 People Have Signed A Petition Against The Destruction Of Trees For New Cycle Route

Over 2,000 people have voiced their opinion on the plans for a new cycle route in North Dublin.

The plans, which would see 62 trees removed from Fairview Park, are to create a new lane that would stretch from Clontarf to Amiens Street.

Dublin Live reports that the 2.5km route, first proposed in 2013, would give people travelling from Sutton access to the city centre.

The plans would remove 62 trees from the park, and replaced with 160 new ones.

Locals from the area - including East Wall, North Strand, Ballybough, Marino, Fairview and Clontarf - have signed a petition against the new plans which would see the historic trees uprooted. 

The plans were released by Dublin City Council earlier this year.
