North Dublin Pub Shut Down Over Food Poisoning Outbreak Is Named Locally

The pub involved in an investigation into a suspected salmonella outbreak which killed a woman in her 50s over the weekend has been named as O'Dwyers's pub, Strand Road, Portmarnock.

Known locally as The Golf Links, its kitchen has been closed by the HSE while it looks into the tragic incident that occurred after the woman attended a First Communion meal with her family in the premises.

The Irish Independent report that the pub's kitchen is occupied by catering company Flanreil Food Services Ltd.

A Food Safety Authority spokesperson said that "the investigation is in its early stages and while it is currently focusing on a catering company, Flanreil Food Services Ltd, the source and cause of the outbreak has not yet been identified."

The pub released this statement on its Facebook page:

"To all our loyal and valued customers many thanks for your messages of support and encouragement at this difficult, sad and stressful time.

"With the guidance and support of the Health Service Executive we are investigating our recent health scare and are working hard over the weekend to ensure our kitchen is fit for purpose again early next week.

"Our sincere apologies to all those who have been inconvenienced by our sudden closure but the health and safety of our customers must be and is our priority. We will keep you all posted."
