A Protest Took Place Outside The Ivy Last Night Following Row Over Tips

Protesters took to The Ivy on Dawson Street last night over the controversy surrounding how staff tips are handled. Last November, management issued a notice saying waiters could no longer take any payments from guests, after a row broke out over tips allegedly not being shared as per company policy. The Ivy said at the time that management would handle all payments going forward due to “greed”, “inability to follow procedures” and “guests… consistently being asked for cash”. https://twitter.com/Kate_OHora/status/1106336161969123329 The Irish Times reports that a group of people who had booked tables for Thursday evening started the protest outside the restaurant and were also joined by TD Joan Collins. They held up a large sign that read ‘stop tip theft’ and chanted, “Cook your steak, eat your chips, give your staff their well-earned tips.” https://twitter.com/rteliveline/status/1065244894762012672 Collins told the newspaper, “We are going to protest every week. We will not say what time or when but we will keep it up until staff get to take home all of their well-earned tips.” The Ivy has since stated, “100 per cent of credit card tips are shared amongst the entire 150 staff members members (excluding management),” and that sharing cash tips with colleagues excluding management is "encouraged".
