It’s Looking Like Delays On The Luas Won’t Be Solved Until March Next Year

Commuters who have faced delays on the Luas Green Line since the opening of the new cross city tram will continue to experience difficulties until next March. 

The Irish Times reports that Transport Infrastructure Ireland has admitted things won't improve until Spring 2018, when more (and longer) trams will be introduced. 

People have been facing delays all week due to a reduction in frequency of trams on the Green Line, which now goes from Bride’s Glen near Cherrywood to Broombridge in Cabra and has gone from every three to six minutes to every four to nine minutes.

Commuters have been complaining of major traffic delays on College Green, with as many as six trams unable to move at one stage due to technical traffic signal problems.

While the Green Line tram previously terminated at St Stephen's Green it now continues  further through the city which means more people are using it. 

Transport Infrastructure Ireland spokesman Sean O’Neill said that:

“The larger number of people waiting to get the trams means it takes longer to get passengers on and off the trams. This high level of usage creates an irregularity in times.”

Seven new longer trams - 12m longer than the current trams - have been ordered and will be ready by March, but commuters should expect reduced frequency in trams and possible delays until then.
