Looks Like South Dublin Could Be Getting an Ikea In The Near Future

The possibility of opening a brand new Dublin-based Ikea premises is currently being explored by the Swedish company.

There is already one Ikea store on the north side of Dublin in Ballymun, as well as an order and collection point in Carrickmines, but there's a chance we could be seeing a new store crop up at some stage on the Southside.

According to the Irish Times, a meeting was held between Ikea and the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, during which the company outlined its trading situation in Ireland.

The meeting, which was held in October 2017, also explored the nature of its 'order and collect' outlet in Carrickmines, south Dublin.

A council spokesperson said that the furniture store is "exploring the option of a site in south Dublin".

Council representatives advised the Swedish company that when it had the necessary authority to discuss a specific proposal, "they are welcome to enter preplanning" with them.

When asked about the sole purpose of the meeting with the County Council, Ikea said that the company is committed to growing and investing in Ireland.

"We are always looking for opportunities, and are investigating the potential for a second store in the market, specifically in Cork."

It added: "However, we have no confirmed plans for the development of an Ikea store at the moment."
