Google Is Set To Buy One Of Dublin’s Most Iconic Buildings As Part Of “Googletown”

The bustling area around by Grand Canal Dock has become informally known as "Googletown", thanks to the tech giant's HQ building.

Now though, it seems likely that Googletown will expand even further as the Irish Independent reports that Google are set to buy the historic Boland's Mill building. 

The Boland Quay scheme is a residential and office space that can accommodate 2,500 workers and will also have culture and retail areas.

The development has 25,455 sq m of office space, 41 waterfront apartments, and retail and commercial space of 1,394 sq m, and the stylish project will also include a new pedestrian bridge, two new civic plazas with water frontage to Grand Canal Dock and a cultural/community area.

There's plans for a gym, cafe, restaurant and a penthouse apartment in the new scheme, and 10 apartments will be held in the iconic old mill building which was occupied during 1916 Rising.

It's expected that it will be completed in December 2019.
