The next time you're out and about in the city centre, be wary of a fake Buddhist monk who's been trying to con passers-by into giving him money.
The man in question has been spotted operating on Grafton Street and O'Connell Street asking for donations under the pretence of putting the money towards Buddhist causes, however, the Irish Buddhist Union has stated that this particular individual has no credentials to back up his claim and that genuine members of their clergy would not collect funds in this manner.
Impersonation of Buddhist monks in order to collect money from the public has been happening in North American cities for some time now but it's a relatively new phenomenon in Ireland, so be wary of con men. If in doubt, ask any individual who might approach you for proof of their identity and to give you details about their centre of practice in Ireland.
According to TheJournal.ie, the Gardaí and Dublin City Council are now aware of the fake monk's operations.
