BREAKING: Dublin Bus Could Strike If Bus Eireann Reject Labour Court Ruling

Although a positive move was made today in the pausing of the Bus Eireann strike, Dublin Bus could still strike if a ruling by the Labour Court is rejected by their colleagues at Bus Eireann.

Dublin Bus workers were balloted on Monday and Tuesday by SIPTU and a final count of the votes revealed that 67% of the Dublin Bus staff were in favour of taking industrial action.

In a statement released by SIPTU today, the union says that the majority of SIPTU members in Dublin Bus voted to join in the transport strike in support of, "and in sympathy with", their colleagues in Bus Eireann.

Bus Eireann union confirmed this afternoon that it received a recommendation from the Labour Court and that their bus staff will return to work while they consider the deal.

It it expected that the majority of Bus Eireann services will resume tomorrow, and that if workers agree on the Labour Court recommendation the strike will be officially over.

This latest update means that if Bus Éireann workers reject the recommendation of the Labour Court, SIPTU members in Dublin Bus will have the right to go on strike as they have already served notice of their intent to take industrial action.

SIPTU members in Dublin Bus vote in favour of industrial action

SIPTU members in Dublin Bus have voted in favour of taking industrial action in support of their colleagues currently in dispute in Bus Éireann in a ballot counted in Liberty Hall, Dublin 1, today (Thursday, 13th April).

SIPTU Organiser, John Murphy, said: “The ballot count has been completed and the majority of SIPTU members in Dublin Bus have voted to take industrial action in support of, and in sympathy with, their colleagues in Bus Éireann. Most SIPTU members in Dublin Bus are bus drivers and this grade voted by 67% to 33% in favour of taking industrial action.”

He added: “SIPTU representatives will now liaise with our colleagues involved in that dispute to discuss when to serve the necessary notice on industrial action on the management of Dublin Bus.”
