Do you get stuck in traffic on your way to and from work on the M50 every day? There could be some changes on the way to help with that.
The Irish Independent reports that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), which operates the M50, has released a tender for operators for the tolling system from 2019 and it states that there will be multiple tolling locations.
About 130,000 vehicles travel between the current tolled section of road daily, although there's more vehicles using the road than was anticipated, leading to congestion.
TII chief executive Michael Nolan said last year that the "main solution" would be "demand management" where vehicles were charged for the toll in multiple locations along the motorway, rather than one main spot.
A number of other measures including variable speed limits (where the speed is reduced if there's heavy traffic) and real-time traffic information are also under way.
"We've included the provision for multi-point tolling in the event it is required in the future and would therefore not be an additional cost for implementation," a TII spokesperson said. "This does not mean it is happening. It is in case of future potential to reduce incurring costs."
