PICS: The Horrific “Kitchen” In This D24 House Share Should Actually Be Illegal

Jaysus. Just when we thought the rental situation couldn't get any worse than it already is, along comes a house share in Tallaght with a kitchen so pathetic it shouldn't be legal. And in fact, it's not.

What's so bad about it, you wonder?

Well... The "kitchen" is actually just a few appliances sitting a feckin WARDROBE. 

We wish we joking, but nope. 1 Kiltipper Rise in Tallaght, Dublin 24 boasts a "lovely self contained bedroom, available for rent in the foothills of the Dublin mountains" for €550 a month.

By "self contained" we assume the landlord means it's some random room shut off in their own home, because tenants are then advised they will have "NO ACCESS to the main kitchen."

All you have to cook with is a fridge, microwave, toaster and electric kettle in a wardrobe beside your bed.

There's NO running water like? Are you meant to wash up in the bathroom? We're no health and safety experts but surely, surely this is a major health hazard.

Rightly so, people are raging.

"I'm so tempted to mail Lucy (the landlord) & tell her to absolutely go fuck herself".

According to the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2017 this "kitchen" breaches the law for the minimum standards landlords must provide.

Private landlords must provide facilities for cooking and for the hygienic storage of food, to include the following:

• 4-ring hob with oven and grill
• Cooker hood or extractor fan
• Fridge and freezer, or a fridge-freezer
• Microwave oven
• Kitchen cupboards that are suitable and adequate for storing food
• Sink with mains water supply, hot water and draining area

While it doesn't make it clear whether that applies to houses where technically there are those facilities, the tenant just has no access to them, it does seem that in this instance the landlord is clearly failing to provide the required prep and storage facilities for food.

€550 a month for this?! It's a 20 minute walk from the Luas for Christ sake. God help whoever moves in and is forced to live off Pot Noodle and microwaved ready meals...
