The capital came alive earlier this week with news that a whale had been spotted in the River Liffey.

Many suspected that the whale was sick and in distress, but it seems that all of our worst fears have come true as the young whale was found dead in Dublin Bay this morning.

Identified as a fin whale, it measured in at just under 8 metres long and was more than likely a juvenile given its size.
The body was discovered by Dublin Port workers early this morning. Mammal experts have been called in for assistance and they are currently assessing the situation and deciding how best to proceed.

It’s thought that the whales remains will not be removed from the water.
