Michael D. Higgins isn't the tallest man in Ireland.
As someone who has briefly met him in person and nervously shaken his hand, I can confirm this.
But our eyes must be playing tricks on us after seeing this photo of Higgins standing next to Leo Varadkar at the All-Ireland hurling final posted to Twitter by Stacey Connolly...

Is what they say about good and bad camera angles at play?
Upon further inspection, he is in fact that much shorter than Varadkar.
