Dublin’s Famous Samuel Beckett Bridge As You’ve Never Seen It Before

The Samuel Beckett Bridge has fast become the most photographed part of the Dublin skyline alongside the Poolbeg towers. 

We see them both feature dozens of times every single day tagged on our #LovinDublin Instagram. 

Something about the two structures make people get snap-happy, and when it comes to the bridge, it isn't hard to see why. 

A couple of times a year we'll see social media light up when the bridge is opened to allow boats travel further down the Quays.

But it is such a rare occurrence that they vast majority of Dubliners have never even witnessed it in person.

With a little help from the wonderful Bridges of Dublin website we thought we'd share a couple of photos that would provoke you into going to read a little bit more about this wonderful bridge that we all know and love. 

As you can see from the photos above, the bridge was actually transported into the city on a barge and it feels strange to think there was nothing there before work started on it in 2007 (it officially opened in 2009).
