Wholesome Treats In Dublin’s Most Chilled Out Café

Sometimes you want a nice treat that doesn't make your jeans button feel like it's going to pop off afterwards. Especially if tea and cake is a regular feature in your week as it is in mine. I've found some delicious sweet treats that have a slightly wholesome feel to them so you won't feel like the Michelin man after scoffing them down...

The Fumbally cafe in Dublin 8 is one of my favourite cafés for lunch, I've found myself spending way too much money on breakfast and lunch their over the last few weeks (when I find a new favourite café I tend to eat there constantly until I get bored and move on to the next). Along with delicious sandwiches and salads they also offer a selection of freshly baked cakes every day. While I wouldn't ever really call any type of cake 'healthy', these are really wholesome and have plenty of good stuff in them.

Their Tunisian orange cake is always a winner, it's a spicy cake made with almond flour and a sticky orange syrup. This is the kind of cake to get when you have an appetite though as it is so filling. Their flapjack I bought there last week was amazing, so buttery and sweet! They were packed with loads of nuts and seeds as well as the oats, so again quite filling as far as sweet treats go.

They also sold 'everything free' cookies which I was intrigued by and dubious about in equal measure. I don't really know how to describe these because they were so random, however I did like them but then again I love alternative healthy treats like this (if you don't then best stick to the orange cake or the flapjack). I couldn't figure out what was in them exactly, they were crispy but had a salty, vanilla taste. I know that sounds really unappetising but I liked them, nice if you fancy a snack but don't want a cake.

I also picked up a berry cupcake for someone back in the office but they weren't too impressed. Apparently it was a little dry and generally 'meh'. However, cupcakes aside this is definitely a spot to pop into to for a treat. They have a great selection of loose leaf teas and if you're lucky you might nab the couch and sink back into your seat to chill out for a little while. This place is so chilled out and definitely attracts and alternative set, don't be surprised if see someone playing the piano with their eyes closed or pull out a guitar and and start strumming. This place has a unique vibe that you won't get anywhere else, so why not check it out for some food this weekend?
