There’s Something Pretty Important About The New Luas Line That Nobody Has Mentioned

While many commuters in Dublin are highly anticipating the arrival of the new Luas cross-city line, it turns out there's one little thing that you might not have known.

The line which will become part of the Green Line launching from 2pm on Saturday, December 9, will actually not interchange with the Red Line - so if you need to switch lines, you will have to walk as there is no interchanging station.

The line will connect the city centre all the way out to Broombridge but if you ever need to connect to the Red Line you will have to get off and walk to the nearest station close to you.

Here's the new layout:

Commuters who are travelling north on the Green Line will have to get off the Luas at the GPO O'Connell Street stop and walk to Abbey Street if they want to board the Red Line to Tallaght or Saggart, or east towards Connolly or The Point.

Then those travelling southbound on the Green line will have to get off at the Marlborough stop and walk to Abbey Street to get on the Red Line.

Likewise, those on the Red Line wishing to board the Green Line will have to get off at Abbey Street and walk towards the GPO stop.

The company said that both sides of the loop are within "a two minute walk" of each other - but it would have been a little bit handier to have an intersecting station. 

At least the walk between the stops isn't far at all!
