Major Traffic Restrictions Are Set To Be Put In Place In This Part Of Dublin City

The Irish Times is reporting that major traffic restrictions are set to be put in place in College Green after An Bord Pleanála decided to cancel next week's hearing on the €10m College Green Plaza project.

This news means that cars and taxis are facing a ban while buses could also be restricted from using the Luas Cross City line under the council's power, causing "major disruption" to the city.

Plans for the plaza would see all traffic, including buses and taxis, banned from accessing Dame Street through College Green. The unknown date regarding the meeting, however, is not good enough according to City council chief executive Owen Keegan.

He said that the city cannot wait indefinitely for a meeting and that the traffic turmoil in College Green must be addressed.

“A decision on the College Green plaza with its associated traffic measures is critical to the smooth movement of people and traffic throughout the core city centre."

Keegan said that current levels of vehicular traffic in College Green means that pedestrians and the Luas are not given priority and this is something that needs to change while they wait for the meeting.

“This is clearly not sustainable. In light of the now-delayed oral hearing the council will have to review the interim traffic management arrangements to determine what additional changes are required.”
