Homeless People Will Be Able To Enjoy Christmas Dinner At The GPO This Year

With the homeless crisis gripping the country, Christmas is set to be a hard time for many people who have found themselves living on the streets. However, this initiative by a Dublin volunteer group aims to spread hope among the less fortunate this year.

Having officially formed in the last month, Hope In The Darkness are "a group of volunteers who have a passion [...] to go out on the streets to feed and clothe the homeless".

The group have announced that on Christmas Day they will be serving dinner to the homeless outside the GPO and they're calling for donations from the public to make this possible. They said,

We at Hope In The Darkness believe that even if you don't have a home for Christmas you should still get a Christmas dinner. So for our first Christmas at the GPO we are going to endeavour to bring Christmas to the homeless ~ but as ever we need your help to do so [...] All we ask is that when you are plating up your dinner for yourself that you plate up an extra dinner or two for a homeless person and then have it dropped to us heated up from 6 onwards. There are many people living local to the GPO and we all make way too much food at Christmas time so why not spread the joys of Christmas dinner to the homeless of Dublin.

In recent weeks, they've been setting up a folding table outside the GPO on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8pm until 11pm to provide some food and clothing for the homeless.

Thus far, there has been a fantastic response from the public.
