Usually we have to wait until at least December for Christmas to be ruined but it seems like we're getting a headstart this year.
It has been reported that the Dublin Christmas Flea Market at the Point Square Shopping Centre will not be taking place this year despite more than doubling its visitor numbers last year.
The event took place over two weekends at the venue and today the
Irish Times has stated that organiser Sharon Greene has written to supporters, saying, 'I am sorry to inform you that unfortunately, we find ourselves in a position that we are not able to move forward with the market any longer.'
The letter goes on to say that alternative venues had been sought, including a '4,000 square-metre marquee in an outdoor city space' but this 'would triple already high event costs and would require us to hike up the trader fees and charge the public in at the door'.
This is one aspect of the festive season in Dublin that will certainly be missed.
