The Guardian Asked Dubliners Why They Hated U2 And The Answers Were Priceless

They're Ireland's most successful export, everyone knows all the words to their songs, and every flippin' time they play here tickets sell out in a snap - but ask any Irish person about U2 and they'll tell you they can't stand them.

Why? Well, The Guardian took to the streets of Dublin to find out, and the answers they got from folk in Grogan's pub are absolutely priceless.

Here's what the good people of U2's hometown had to say...

“I don’t really like him. Maybe it’s because he’s a bit sanctimonious. It might be the glasses as well. He never takes off those glasses.”

“We don’t like them because they did well... “They’re not the Dubliners, the Pogues, even the Cranberries – they all weren’t that big. But U2 did very well.”

 "He does so much for charity and the poor and yet people still do hate him."

The begrudging Irish 

Even Bono himself has recalled a fable on the Conan O'Brian show about the classic Irish begrudgery, so we doubt he'd be too surprised about the comments.

Still though, we've a sneaky feeling that one or two of those naysayers will be screaming along to the Where The Streets Have No Name at the band's upcoming gig. Will you be one of them?
