It might not be a banner weekend for wide releases (Sorry, who ordered The Bad Education Movie?), but this weekend still holds a few late summer treats in store for those looking beyond their local multiplex.

Few films released last year were as universally adored as Wes Anderson’s opus. Set in the fictional Republic of Zubrowka, the adventures of esteemed concierge Gustave H, and his beloved lobby boy Zero made for the biggest hit of the director’s career, nominated for oodles of Oscars despite only emerging at the tail-end of the previous year’s awards season. This open-air screening will be a great opportunity for anyone who missed this instant comedy classic first time around, while Anderson die-hards will be sure to attend, doused in L’air de Panache, naturally.
Oh, and Ben & Jerry’s will be giving out free ice-cream, as if you needed any further coaxing.

For fourteen years, the Angulo family’s six sons were locked away in an apartment in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, homeschooled by their mother and effectively imprisoned by their father. Only venturing beyond the confines of their home once a year, the siblings bonded over their love of movies, often recreating their favourites, such as Batman and Reservoir Dogs. Picking up after one of the boys wandered outside in 2010, Crystal Moselle’s eye-opening documentary looks to be an intriguing snapshot of an extremely unconventional upbringing, and its aftermath as the boys take tentative steps into the outside world.

Part of the Light House Cinema’s ‘Films You’d Love your Kids to See’ series, this Saturday sees a back-to-back triple bill of Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones trilogy. These films set the benchmark for the blockbusters of the ‘80’s, and over the years, have held up remarkably well. This was a time when a film featuring nazi’s heads melting could still be deemed family entertainment, and surely that’s worth revisiting in and of itself. As the studios clamber to recast Indy, there’s no better time to look back at this much-loved trilogy.
Wait, wasn’t there another one? Something about aliens and Shia LaBeouf swinging from trees like a monkey? No? Oh right. Never mind, then.
