Here’s Everything You Need To Know If You’re Heading To The Bray Air Display This Weekend

It gets bigger every year, and it gets better every year, and this time around is no exception.

The Bray Air Display takes place this Saturday and Sunday on the town's famed seafront, kicking off at noon each day. And here's everything you need to know about the event – both on the air and on the ground.

1. For the first time ever, it’s a two-day event

That’s not only testament to the serious line-up they’ve managed to pull together this year – but also to the fact that a whopping 90,000 people showed up to last year’s one-dayer.

So where there is demand, let there be supply… and this festival has certainly risen to the occasion.

2. You won’t go hungry – or thirsty

We’re partial to a bit of food and grub here at Lovin Dublin, so this festival is an absolute dream for us.

Not only will there be a craft food and drinks fair down on the seafront itself, right where all the action takes place, but you couldn’t be more surrounded by absolutely excellent places to grab a bite or a tipple.

3. It’s seriously easy to get to…

The DART and Bray go hand in hand – sure did anyone even know it was there beforehand?

The station is located right beside the seaside, meaning there’s no arduous trek once you reach the end of the 37-minute journey. And for those living along the N11 or right in the city centre, the 145 brings you to the Main Street, which is but a seven-minute walk from all the action.

4. Though you should probably leave the car at home

Park and Ride facilities are available, but take it from a local – the town gets absolutely thronged during this weekend every year, and if you can avoid driving, do.

5. You don’t have to be an aviation nerd to appreciate the line-up

Let’s just say The Breitling Wingwalkers do exactly what their name suggests.

Throw in the likes of the Frecce Tricolori and the Red Arrows – household names, to be fair – and you’re on to a serious winner.

And it’s not all old-timey biplanes and propellor-driven machines either – CityJet will be exhibiting their SuperJet SSJ100, which will knock your socks off when you see it up this close.

Better still, there’s full commentary being broadcast across the seafront all day, so you’ll know exactly what you’re watching at all times.

6. If you suddenly realise you HATE planes, all is not lost…

There are heaps of things to do that don’t involve watching skyborne objects should you suddenly have a startling realisation that you hate the feckers (READ: there are loads of things to do for when the kids get bored).

Not only will there be a funfair on the seafront, open from midday until 10pm each day (which will be staying around until August), but there’s also the usual suspects – the National Sea Life Centre, the Cliff Walk to Greystones and a brisk hike up to the top of Bray Head, where the views are quite simple awesome. 

7. But if not, you can even take to the skies yourself!

If so, chances are all this flying fun will affect you in much the same way; so why not take to the skies yourself in a helicopter?
