A Dublin Granny Has Been Named Specsavers Granny Of The Year

The sweetest story of the year?

We think so. 

Specsavers and Third Age have just announced that 94-year-old Dubliner Moya Connelly, who completed her Junior Certificate at the age of 92, has won the title of Grandparent of the Year 2016. 

The grandmother of five, who was nominated by her 18-year-old granddaughter Hannah Connelly, beat stiff competition from hundreds of entries following a nationwide search to find Ireland’s most exceptional grandparent.

Legendary broadcaster Mícheál O Muircheartaigh today presented Moya Connelly with her prize which comprised of a trophy, a Specsavers voucher and a weekend away in Ireland. Her granddaughter Hannah Connelly was presented with an iPad Air for her winning entry in which she described Moya as ‘inspirational’.

CUUUUUUUTE.

There were four regional winners from Connacht, Ulster, Munster and Leinster who competed for the national title. 

The other finalists were: 

• Oliver Ryan from Moycullen, Galway (Connacht)
• Margaret McConnell from Letterkenny (Ulster) 
• and Betty Crosbie from Killarney (Munster)
