13 Notions We All Suffered From As Celtic Tiger Cubs

I think it's safe to say that we all lost our shit a bit during the Celtic Tiger years. Due to the fact that hindsight is 20/20, we all know we lost our heads big time. 

But, from the ashes, we have risen like a phoenix and gotten our shit together – slowly but surely. Nevertheless, it is funny to remember the time we collectively spent money like it was going out of fashion.

Here are 13 things to trigger the flashy memory you once had. 

1. Sweet 16s

We all spent far too much time watching MTV. 

2. Thinking only Superquinn sausages would do

Far from Superquinn were we reared.

3. Going to NYC for your Christmas shopping

SO far from okay, there are no words.

4. Spending €6+ on Tropicana

Ludicrous.

4. Spending €100 on school shoes, every year

Deck shoes, nonetheless.

5. Getting taxis everywhere

Raining? Taxi. Cold? Taxi. Want to sleep ten more minutes? Taxi.

6. The rise of the tumble-dryer

Throwing one sock into the dryer for 40 minutes despite there being great drying weather outside. Shockin'.

7. Going out for meals on the reg

Our older relatives are turning in their graves.

8. Selfies 

While it wasn't until 2014 that the year of the selfie was created, people had been taking selfies on family digital cameras long before that. Bebo albums were full to the brim of young ones in several different outfits feigning social lives.

9. Skipping mass to go shopping 

Have you ever heard the like?!

10. Frappuccinos 

Paying upwards of €4.50 for a cold, foamy, flavoured coffee. What even was that?

11. Beats headphones 

€400+ earphones which do a slightly better job than the ones you get with your phone/on airplanes/find down the bottom of the sofa. Mortifying.

12. Visiting Santa in Lapland

Remember the days when Aer Lingus would do extra flights out to Lapland during December for the kids of Celtic Tiger big dogs to flash the cash and meet Mr. Claus.

13. Handbag dogs

Sure they'd only wee everywhere.
