Dublin Lord Mayor Hilariously Trolls Kerry Counterpart Ahead Of All-Ireland Showdown

Nothing beats a bit of witty banter between friends. At least if Dublin’s Lord Mayor and the Mayor of Kerry are anything to go by. Paul McAuliffe extended the hand of friendship to Kerryman Niall Kelleher by inviting him and his wife to come and stay with him in the Mansion House. On the weekend of the All Ireland final between the two counties, no less. The Lord Mayor may need to invest in a new laptop though as the invite is riddled with ‘typos’, with certain letters being replaced by the number five instead. It reads: “Dear Niall. There i5 5sure to be plenty of banter between your kingdom and my city ahead of the men’5 All-Ireland Football Final. But banter a5ide, we are a city of welcom5 and it would be my plea5ure to have you and your wife 5tay a5 our gue5t’5 in the Man5ion Hou5e that weekend. P.S. 5orry about all the typo5.”

This is, of course, in relation to Dublin winning their fifth Championship in-a-row if they beat Kerry in the Croke Park showdown on September 1.  Kelleher’s response? Equally amusing. Accepting the Lord Mayor’s ‘kind invitation’ he said that he ‘cannot bring our Celtic Crosses with me to show you as we’d need a convoy of 37 carriages to bring them all’. He went on to say ‘I look forward to returning your invite. You can get to Kerry easily, just follow Sam down the road when he’s travelling home. He knows the way fierce well, having been down here 37 times, in case I haven’t mentioned it’.
