Witness The Birth Of A New Generation Of Jazz With The Impressive National Youth Jazz Ensemble At The Sugar Club

The National Youth Jazz Ensemble will make their debut performance at the Sugar Club this Monday, August 10.

Formed just last month, the NYJE is a new Dublin based big-band jazz ensemble that brings together some of Ireland’s finest jazz musicians. One of the ensemble’s chief aims is to provide a platform from which young musicians can launch themselves.

The audience can expect a variety of tunes ranging from early swing to modern chart hits, as well as performances of specially commissioned compositions.

Founded by Kevin Hanafin, Oisin Murtagh, Paul Kiernan and David Conway, and supported by the Royal Irish Academy of Music, the project will see structures put in place to ensure a continuous programme of learning for Ireland’s finest jazz musicians with a regular rehearsal schedule, ongoing peer support and opportunities to perform at some of Ireland’s best venues.

It's a twenty piece big band jazz ensemble. Most of the jazz in town is passed among established players, so the idea of this ensemble is to make it all more accessible for up and coming jazz musicians, while building a community among them.
