The Tea and Coffee Academy is a new venture – so new in fact, it’s just being launched this weekend at the Dublin Coffee and Tea Festival.
The Academy has been set up and is being run by three members of the appropriately-named
Coffee Perfection Ltd, best known for producing
Marley Coffee, which you’ll find in cafés like Krust.
The Tea and Coffee Academy are dedicated to teaching people how to make good coffee, whether at home for their own pleasure, or professionally, but their focus is their three-day barista course. “When you go out to cafés, nine times out of ten, the coffee you get is burnt. It’s really hard to get good coffee; and if you want something good, you need to get training”, says Mandy Griffin of Coffee Perfection.

Based in Dunboyne, this three-day course covers all aspects of barista training, including tea, coffee, smoothies and juices. What’s more, it’s City and Guild certified – meaning it’s internationally recognised. It’s not for the amateurs, but it is perfect for anyone who’s serious about their coffee career, wants to make the move to management, or is looking for work abroad.
They’ll also be running a few beginner courses, such as a 1-day ‘Introduction to Coffee’ which will cover the history of the beverage, as well as, of course, how to make a decent brew at home, plus a ‘Start Your Own Café’ course.
