We Went To Ireland’s First Cat Lounge And It’s Seriously Adorable

Cat lovers have highly anticipated the opening of the very first 'cat lounge' in Dublin, and today Cat Lounge finally opened its doors to the public.

We made it our business to be first through the doors at 9am, eager to cuddle the five little bundles of fur and relax with a cuppa.

The space in 1 Haymarket, Smithfield is very spacious, so there's plenty of room for the little ones to run around and play.

The space is equipped with a coffee machine (which is complimentary), couches and two cat trees for them to climb and hide in.

The cat lounge was opened up by business woman, Georgina O'Neill, an avid animal lover who was inspired by the cat cafés in Japan.

Georgina said, "My brother was in Japan and it's full of cat cafés and I was thinking 'why don't we have any in Ireland?' and so I've been planning to get it up and running for over three and a half years.

"I'm really excited that we're now open and we cannot wait for everyone to see it for themselves."

The cat lounge is open until 7:30pm, so there's plenty of time to pop by after work for a quick cuddle.

Customers can book 90 minute sessions to explore the lounge - which sounds like a lot, but time flies when you're cuddling kittens.

The lounge has five adorable 6-week-old rescue kittens from the same litter, and Georgina is planning to have five more join the little family by next week.

There is currently two female and three male kittens, and they have all been checked over by a vet before they joined Georgina and the cat lounge family.

She hopes that when they are old enough, they can be re-homed.

For now they are getting plenty of attention and care from not only Georgina, but all the cat lovers who are already lining up to meet them.

The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with Georgina noting that the few people who have given negative feedback don't fully understand it.

She assured us that the kittens are well looked after and are very friendly and approachable, and enjoy the company of people. Two even crawled right onto my lap and snuggled into me as soon as I walked in.

Georgina hopes that that cat lounge will become a tranquil space for people to enjoy the feline's warm company and she hopes to add more features to the place.

She said, "By next year I hope to have little shelves running around where the cats can climb up and explore.

"We're excited to see what's next."

And so are we, I'm dying to go back because it was the perfect way to spend my morning.
