Tomorrow marks International Day of Peace 2019 and to celebrate, Concern has collaborated with Irish street artist ESTR and spoken word poet Felispeaks.
ETSR, also known as Emmalene Blake, is best known for her ‘Not Asking For It’ mural outside the Bernard Shaw last year. Commissioned by Concern, this year's peace mural is inspired by the poem ‘I Am Humanity’ written by Felispeaks and depicts Clotilde Ndayisenga and her daughter Ines.
The image of the mother-daughter duo, beneficiaries of Concern in Burundi, is based on a photo taken by photographer Abbie Trayler-Smith. Accompanied by the words “I am the heart that will warm yours”, a line from Felispeaks’ poem, it's a poignant piece celebrating the warmth of human connection.
The mural will remain in place for two weeks and people are invited to come down and interact with the piece via a QR code.
