Two Prisoners Attempted ‘A Shawshank’ At Cloverhill Prison

Two Cloverhill Prison inmates were caught tunnelling their way out of the South Dublin prison, having picked up such techniques from popular Morgan Freeman movie 'The Shawshank Redemption'. 

The two men, who are understood to be of Polish descent, hid their handiwork with an array of posters scattered around the walls of their cells. 

According to the Sunday World, prison officers discovered that one of the inmates had been ''gouging out the concrete around the window'' in his cell. They then found a number of plans and lists with escape routes laid out. 

A forensic search of the cell later uncovered a number of plans and lists associated with two separate escape routes for him to follow once he made it out of the prison. 

Speaking to the Sunday World, a source revealed that there were two possible routes on the men's minds:

“One of the routes would have involved his travelling to court and escaping the country by boat. The second route would have seen him travel north and escape the country via that route.”

Following the investigation, both prisoners involved in the planned escape have been placed in separate isolation units in separate prisons.
