The last weekend of summer rarely bears much fruit for the avid cinema-goer, with little on offer other than the much-hyped, supposedly quite good, Straight Outta Compton.
But Compton aside, here are a few trips worth taking this week..

Light House Cinema.
Once hailed as a master of his craft, The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan’s output since his breakout (released way back in 1999) has been, well, let’s say ‘varied’.... hitting rock bottom with last year’s panned Will & Jaden Smith vehicle, After Earth.
Returning to his supernatural horror roots with The Visit, let’s hope this marks a return to Shyamalan’s previous form, hinted at in his well-received FX series, Wayward Pines.
If it doesn’t, the man himself will be there in person, so you’ll be able to give him a piece of your mind.
Weekend and Looking director Andrew Haigh’s latest sees acting legends Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling play a couple on the cusp of the 45th wedding anniversary.
With party planning well underway, all is thrown into disarray following the discovery of the body of Geoff’s (Courtenay) first love, killed in a hiking accident many years before.
The two leads won the top acting awards at the Berlin Film Festival so this looks to be a heart-wrenching examination of relationships and the power of the past.
So, there’s a film out this weekend starring Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain, filmed in where else, Co. Fermanagh.
Why haven’t you heard a thing about it? It’s not another Serena level stinker, but Miss Julie is definitely not your typical star vehicle.
An adaptation of August Strindberg’s 1888 play and set entirely in a country estate, Liv Ullman’s film sees Chastain in the title role, attempting to seduce Farrell’s valet over the course of one evening.
A dark, twisted character study, this won’t be for everyone, but boasts stellar performances from its two leads.
