Plans are underway to extend the Luas line into Finglas, a project which Fine Gael TD Noel Rock is calling 'FingLuas.'
The party says that design work is now underway and a preferred route is expected to be identified in 2020. Rock confirmed the news by saying: "This week I received confirmation that a Transport Infrastructure Ireland team have already begun planning and design work on the project and this work will continue until next year when an emerging preferred route will be identified.
"This route will be subject to public consultation and it is vital that the voices of the community are heard and taken into account."
The TD added that the project will "have a transformative effect on the north-west of the city and will make a major difference to people in the area."
In 2017, the Luas Cross City brought trams to Phibsboro, Cabra and Broombridge and Rock feels that Finglas can be the next northside area to benefit.
"I know it has made a huge difference to Cabra and Broombridge and I know it will do the same for Finglas South, West and Finglas Village. This will give Finglas the investment it deserves and needs.
“I will continue to work night and day to ensure that we keep the pressure on early delivery of this vital infrastructural project,” he said.
