A Norwegian Air plane transporting almost 200 passengers from Dublin to Boston was forced to turned around 90 minutes into a flight on Wednesday afternoon.
The flight was forced to make a U turn because of a 'technical issue', with passengers remaining in Dublin last night. The DB1823 plane, carrying 189 people, left Dublin at 3pm and had been due to arrive in Boston seven hours later.
However, 90 minutes into the journey the pilot informed passengers that due to a 'technical issue,' the plane would have to return to Dublin. However, this U-turn involved a two-and-a-half hour circle around the Atlantic Ocean in an attempt to burn off a safe amount of fuel before landing.
The aircraft eventually landed at 7pm yesterday evening where flyers were given €20 food vouchers as compensation.
Lovin Dublin reached out to Norwegian Air for comment:
"Unfortunately Wednesday's Dublin to Providence flight returned back to Dublin after take-off due to a minor technical issue with the aircraft. Although the aircraft issue was resolved, curfew times of US customs and borders at Providence Airport meant the flight was unable to resume its journey on Wednesday evening. The flight is now scheduled to depart on Thursday morning - we would like to sincerely apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the delay to their flight."
