Looking for a new brunch spot to try this lovely Sunday?
Look no further than The Washerwoman, Glasnevin Hill — our current favourite place to hit up on the weekend, relax, read the paper and enjoy delicious food and drink.
The Washerwoman is brought to us by the same crowd behind The Woollen Mills and The Winding Stair in town.
And the food is just as good, if not better.
This restaurant is beautifully designed and really lends to the dining experience.
It's got cool, clean, rustic vibes — and the atmosphere is dreamy.
You'll wanna stay all day.
The venue itself is perfect — an idyllic cottage which the owners fell in love with it back in 2013, before opening The Washerwoman in 2015.
Back in the day this was a very well-known spot for Glasneviners, somewhat of a landmark building, believed to have been built in the 1700s, but the restaurant had been through several iterations over the years and was in need of some re-invention.
And re-invention it got...
Glasnevin Hill is locally called Washerwoman's Hill in memory of the washerwomen who washed clothes in the Tolka River back in the day.
Exec-chef Ian Connnolly and Washerwoman manager Elaine Murphy endeavour to strike that balance that is so crucial to a neighbourhood restaurant: that of special occasion/every day and family-friendly.
"We needed it to be somewhere tired mammies and daddies would forego the cooking as well as where they might go to share a family celebration."
They work with Irish butchers near and far to source some really "savage breeds" for their steak menu offerings.
And while some of the evening menu is elegant, other dishes are well and truly dirty.
As Elaine calls them herself, "outrageous gourmet garbage dishes" — such as three-way chicken wings, smoke and sugar cure bacon and their notorious Ballinwillan wild Irish boar nachos.
And the moment you've all been waiting for...
Brunch is served on Saturdays 12pm 'til 4pm and Sundays 11am 'til 4pm.
And we'd give an arm and leg to be sitting in there enjoying some grub today.
And for sides? Make sure you try their Bombay spuds with pickle and yogurt or their sweet potato fries!
To wash it all down try one of their carefully-chosen wines or a delish coffee.
We really can't recommend this dreamy spot enough, the perfect way to spend a Sunday and you can head over to the Botanical Gardens after!
