Fox News Video Pokes Fun At Dubliners For Supporting Blockade Of Israeli Goods

You'll all remember the war in Gaza last summer – thousands of people left dead, marches around the world, the killing of the little boys on the beach and a general reaction of outrage from people across the world.

Horrific times – and although life moves on for all of us, Gaza is still effectively an open-air prison for a couple of million people.

While the international community pretty much stands aside and lets this happen to the Palestinians, every few years one initiative that has started to have an impact is BDS – Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions. Essentially it boils down to ordinary people around the world boycotting Israeli goods, and it's starting to have a serious effect.

One country that has been especially strong in taking up BDS is Ireland. You may remember we have a bit of a history of helping to take the first steps to stop apartheid back in the '80s when boycotting South African goods and the notable case of the Dunnes Stores workers.

That is why watching the Fox News video above, shot on the streets of Dublin by Ami Horowitz, made me so angry. This piece of propaganda is cleverly edited and targets people for supporting something they believe in, while also trying to demonise them as people who support terrorists and suppressive regimes across the world – which is absolutely not the point of any of this.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions but I'd guess that mocking Irish people with hidden cameras is probably only going to encourage the support of BDS here and draw people's attention to it. Amazing what you can do with a bit of peaceful protest when it hits you hard in the pocket.
