This Artist Painted Europe Over 30 Years – And Now He’s Showing His Work In Dublin

Stephen McKenna, a former Turner Prize nominee, will start his 'Perspectives of Europe' exhibition in the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane this week.

The visual artist, who was born in London but has been based in Ireland since 1998, created the entirety of this collection between 1980 and 2014.

The aim of the exhibition is to offer visitors a glimpse of our continent from the artist's own morphing perspective, who lived in a nomadic life across Europe over a 30 year period.

Throughout his work, McKenna demonstrates a fixation with the structures which underlie the natural and artificial world.

Alongside his paintings of cities, in this exhibition there is a focus on the artist’s love of nature in his depictions of foliage. He delights in opening his and our eyes to the poetry contained in their painterly representation ordinary and extraordinary in their compositional structures.

If you or an arty friend want to check out the work of this Turner Prize nominated artist, 'Perspectives of Europe' will officially open this Wednesday at the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, while entry will be free of charge from Thursday, July 23 until Sunday, October 4.
