Are you in Dublin this weekend and feeling miserable that pretty much everyone seems to be going to Electric Picnic? Well don't, as always there is loads going on in the city this weekend and we picked a few events that are worth checking out!
An Taisce Film Nights Present The Unforeseen
The Unforeseen is winner the 2008 Independent Spirit award and has been called "the best film of the 2007 Sundance Film festival, hands down." It will be shown tonight for free in the An Taisce building on Back Lane. It's set in the 1980s and is about a real estate developer who arrived in Austin, Texas, with a dream to transform miles of pristine wilderness into a sprawling self-sufficient city. When the development threatened a local treasure, a fragile limestone aquifer and a naturally spring-fed swimming hole, the community decided to fight back. Croke Park Classic - Penn State V University of Central Florida
Okay so the majority of us don't have tickets for this American football game, but that doesn't mean we can't join in the fun! As over 20,000 tourists travel to Dublin specifically for this game, you can be guaranteed there will be a buzz and atmosphere in the city this weekend that we want to be part of. Luckily even if you don't have tickets Temple Bar will be thronging with people with both team's Pep Rallies on in Temple Bar on Friday and a tailgate party taking place there on Saturday. Merrion Square Open Day - Tour O'Connell House
A tour of O'Connell House, home of Daniel O'Connell, the man known as the Liberator, famous for Catholic Emancipation is on this Saturday. Number 58 was his home in Dublin and there are drawings from the time of him addressing crowds from the house. You can book your free tickets here.
Blood & Guts! 1,000 years of Dublin's Horrible History Walking Tour
On Sunday this entertaining walking tour will take participants to Dublin’s historic leper colony, in a fascinating stroll through 1,000 years of history, starting with the first hospital at the city walls. You'll experience the pox, plague and cholera! The walk will start at Fishamble St at Christchurch Cathedral, will wind through the city centre and finish up at Andrew St graveyard.
