If you're thinking of catching a movie this week, we've picked out a few screenings and international movies worth checking out across Dublin..
Marking the beginning of the eagerly anticipated month-long Bill Murray season at Light House cinema, Friday night sees Sofia Coppolla’s lonely masterpiece screened in glorious 35mm. The screening will be complete with Japanese cocktails and naturally, big-screen karaoke afterwards. If you’ve missed out on tickets, it screens again on Saturday and Wednesday (sadly, sans karaoke).
The tumultuous career of troubled football superstar Paul Gascoigne is the subject of this new documentary. His self destructive behaviour and mental health issues have established him as one of the more tragic sporting heroes in recent memory. Jane Preston’s documentary is followed by what should be an eventful Q&A, with Gazza himself set to make a rare public appearance.
Winner of the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance, one-time Beta Band member, John Maclean, brings his debut feature to IFI for an exclusive preview screening. A stylish, modern take on the western, it features our boy Mickey Fassbender and the ever-reliable Ben Mendelsohn. In a summer filled with superhero movies, it looks to be a breath of fresh air - see it first next Thursday.
