It may not feel like it as you walk around outside, but the summer festival season has kicked off – and with Forbidden Fruit, Slane, Life and Bloom all taking place this weekend, it seems like more people will be eating outdoors than indoors this weekend regardless of the weather.
Festival food in Ireland has seriously upped its game since I first attended a festival in 2004 and survived the weekend on a diet of chips, chips, a few more chips and the single worst breakfast roll I've ever had the misfortune to see placed in front of me. Nowadays, there's about as much choice in festival fare as there is in Ranelagh or South William Street on a Friday night – but that doesn't mean it's all good.
