With Halloween creeping around the corner, it’s time to get cracking on your costume and, more importantly, where you’re going to flaunt it.
Unfortunately, All Hallows Eve can be one of those nights which are excessively hyped, and thus results in disappointment (see also: NYE). Over-priced clubs are packed to the rafters with scantily-clad nurses/bunnies/whatever you’re having yourselves and lads dressed in last minute outfits comprising of hi-vis jackets and some form of prop. Chances are someone’s going to pilfer the crucial part of your costume, or worse, vomit on you… And by 3am (or later, if you dare to venture into the crypt of Coppers), as you stumble towards the nearest fast food vendor desperate for garlic cheese chips, with your carefully planned Ice Bucket Challenge costume in tatters, you’ll ruefully think to yourself ‘NEVER AGAIN!’.
However, here is a list of some alternative ways to spend your Halloween in order to avoid the afore-mentioned scenes of carnage …
For anyone looking to unleash their inner Nucky Thomson, this one’s for you. Hosted in the regal settings of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham, Film Fatale will be organising an illegal speakeasy set in the sparkling 1920s, filled with gangsters and flappers. Expect cabaret, burlesque, gambling and bootlegged hooch to be the theme of the evening.

A live 80s tribute band. Film screening of This Is Spinal Tap. Hip Hop DJs. Grub on site. Free 80s makeovers and t-shirt printing. Spooky bake sale. All you need is your leather jacket & black jeans, so rock on over to the Sugar Club for a Halloween night with a heavy metal twist.
DIP bring their funky vibes to the unique settings of D-Light Studios for Studio Fifty Gore. Their theme keeps with the more traditional image of Halloween: ‘dress to spook’. DIP will stay true to their roots with a music policy of only the finest disco, house and boogie on the night. To sweeten the deal even more, it’s BYOB, so no need to be sneaky with you naggins as you groove all night long.
As evenings go, a gaff full of your friends (in ridiculous costumes) is pretty much perfect; it’s easy on the pocket and so much fun. Remember all those games you used to play as a child on Halloween? Well, they’re a thousand times more fun when alcohol is involved, particularly when bobbing for apples is done in a basin of cider! So get your friends round, make some toxic pumpkin punch, cut the barn brack and prepare for a hilarious stumble down memory lane.
Don’t worry if you really want to avoid town on the 31st, because the following evening promises to be just as good. Not only will the 1st of November probably be known as the Night of the Dead in Dublin as hungover souls struggle to order their Dominos... But also because the Twisted Pepper will come alive with DJs from all over Europe and Brazil playing a combination of Balkan tunes and Afro-Latin trance music. For a night less ordinary, join the masses of florally-wreathed skeletons celebrating their buried ancestors in tribal voodoo style.
