No man in Tunisia was ready for my mother.

It was all going well until she went to the markets, where she’d ask the price of something, the guys would ask her how much she wanted to pay… so she’d repeat herself, as would he!

So mum’s reaction was to do a walkabout of the shop, and when your man grabbed her by the arm, she swung around and finger pointing in his face she says: "Where I come from, men respect women, where I come from women have rights and say what they want. Where I come from there is a price on everything and that's what we pay, you ask how much I want to pay, well nothing is what I want to pay you."

These things don't apply to my mother!

The guy then says: "Where you come from"?

To which my mother pulls out the camera and starts showing him pictures of Ashford Castle in Mayo! His face really said "shit", but he probably just thought that was our house.

Women may have limited rights in Tunisia, but these things don’t apply to my mother!
